Verdict

PromptChan is mainly an image and video generator with companion chat built around it. You can ask a character for photos of the current scene, voice messages and calls, and on Pro, video clips with sound. The Irish operator is named, and refunds are possible within 30 days if you have barely used the service. However, chat runs on unnamed in-house models, there is no documented long-term memory, Gems are charged for almost everything, the privacy policy says nothing about chats or AI training, and you only have to state your age.

Overview

PromptChan is run by VisionAI Labs Limited, an Irish micro company registered in December 2023. The service itself has existed since at least April 2023, and it moved from promptchan.ai to promptchan.com in early 2025. It works only in the browser, with no current App Store or Google Play app, and it claims more than 11 million users. It combines a prompt-based image generator, an AI video generator and girlfriend, boyfriend and anime companion chat. Chat runs on two in-house models, v2.5 Pro and v2.5 Fast, which you can switch mid-conversation. There are two modes: Chat mode for back-and-forth conversation, and Story mode, where you direct a scene. More than 50 prewritten scenarios are available.

Media is the main draw. Images come in realistic, anime and fantasy styles. Companions can create a picture from the current scene, send voice messages and take voice calls, and Pro subscribers can make video clips with sound and lengthen them with Extend. Unpublished clips are deleted after 24 hours. Gems pay for nearly everything, and video, custom characters and unlimited chat are all on the $33.99 Pro plan. The official pages say little about memory, and switching between Chat and Story mode clears the conversation. Similarweb shows that most visitors come from the US, followed by Germany, Japan, Spain and the Netherlands.

Pricing

The official pricing page (October 2026) lists Plus at $14.99 a month, Premium at $23.99 and Pro at $33.99. Billing is monthly only, with no yearly plan or free trial. Promotional prices sometimes appear at checkout. A third-party listing from March 2026 showed Plus at $4.49, which it described as 70% off.

According to the official chat guide, a chat message costs one or two Gems depending on the model. A voice message costs 1 Gem and a voice call 2 Gems. Video costs vary, and the price is shown before you generate. Paid plans get 50% off extra Gems, but the site does not list Gem pack prices. You can cancel in account settings, and the plan runs to the end of the billing period. Refunds are possible within 30 days if you cancel first and have not made significant use of the service. Crypto payments cannot be refunded. An older official article still lists Plus at $9.99, Premium at $15.99 and Pro at $24.99, which no longer matches the pricing page.

Privacy & safety

PromptChan names an Irish operator and has no known breaches. However, its privacy policy does not cover chats, voice data or AI training, and age is self-declared.

• CautionThe privacy policy, updated 2 October 2026, does not mention chat messages, voice data or uploaded images. It also does not say whether your data trains AI models, and it describes no deletion procedure.
• CautionContent you make in public mode can be hosted and promoted by PromptChan under a perpetual, irrevocable licence. Paid plans can generate privately, and the company claims no rights to private creations.
• CautionUsers must be 18+, but no age verification method is described, so age appears to be self-declared.
• NoteThe operator, VisionAI Labs Limited, is a registered Irish company. Analytics data is kept for 90 days to 13 months, and in the EU and UK Google tools load only after cookie consent. No breaches, lawsuits or regulator actions naming PromptChan found.

What users say

On Trustpilot, PromptChan has 4.3 stars from 195 reviews (October 2026) on a profile the company has not claimed. Many of the five-star reviews are very short and were posted around 21 to 24 July 2026, and a one-star review from October 2026 cites bugs, crashes and poor support. The old promptchan.ai profile, now closed to new reviews, holds complaints from 2024 to early 2025 about charges after cancellation, crypto payments that did not activate accounts, disappearing credits and little support. A former iOS app averaged about 4.2 stars but has been removed, and there is little other independent feedback.
