Verdict
Kindroid gives you more control than any other companion app: detailed backstories, directives, layered memory, journals, custom voices and live video calls. Adult roleplay is allowed under a written policy. It is no longer an app to try casually, because the free tier ended on October 1, 2026, and the full feature set with add-ons can cost about $100 a month.

Overview

Kindroid is made by Beautifully Incorporated, a small US company, and launched in 2023. You write your companion's backstory, key memories, example messages and directives, and its Cascaded memory recalls details across hundreds or thousands of messages. Journals hold up to 500 entries, and Learned Context lets the companion pick up facts as you talk.
It is also strong on media, with selfies, video selfies, group selfies, custom voices and live video calls with a lip-synced avatar. Rooms, added in September 2026, let up to 10 people and 11 companions share a chat. The flagship Polaris model is for subscribers only, and Kindroid retires older models often, which can change how your companion talks.

Privacy & safety
Kindroid has no breaches or fines on record, does not sell data, and offers deletion and export. It is vague about whether chats train its models, and its September 2026 FAQ rewrite removed an earlier privacy promise.
- CautionKindroid rewrote its privacy FAQ in September 2026 and dropped its earlier claim that only you and the AI can see your chats. A small number of engineers can access production systems.
- NoteChats are encrypted at rest and in transit, but not end to end. The privacy policy says data is not sold and is used to improve the service, without saying clearly whether chats train its models.
- NoteYou can delete your account, which takes effect after 24 hours, and export your data once every 30 days.
- NoteWe found no breaches, fines or lawsuits. New York users get the recurring AI reminder that state law requires.
What users say
Store ratings are excellent, with 4.8 on the App Store. The few Trustpilot reviews are negative, citing NSFW and selfie limits, account locks and refunds, and the end of the free tier caused a backlash on Reddit.
Kindroid FAQ
Is Kindroid free?
No longer. The unlimited free Lite tier ended on October 1, 2026. New accounts get a one-time preview of 50 messages, 5 selfies and some audio credits, after which the account becomes read-only. A 3-day trial needs a payment method.
